Leaving a career in business behind, turned to performance art in 1988. Graduated from the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies in Giessen, Germany, 1994. Independent artist since then. Teacher of Video Arts at Freie Universität Berlin, 1996-present. Various “artist in residencies” and scholarships, such as Emily Harvey Foundation (Venice, Italy), Brown Foundation Fellows Program (Dora Maar House, France), Watermill Center (NY, USA).
Martius has more than a hundred international performances, theater-projects and videos to his credit.

Our highly regarded colleague, friend and mentor Klaus-Peter Köpping passed away in June 2017. His death came unexpected to everybody here at the Center. We miss him a lot. In 2013, a group of Egyptian and European artists from the fields of choreography, architecture and theatre set out to explore questions such as: What kind of society do we want to live in? What are the conditions we need to create for our lives? The group tried to address these challenges through building spatial structures in Berlin, Vienna and Cairo. The video
